Regal Princess offers a truly luxurious cruise experience.

Our first walk of the cruise takes us to one of Hobart’s most famous landmarks. We transfer a short distance to the base of Mount Wellington and the distinctive rock formation; the Organ Pipes. The Organ Pipes form a magnificent sight along this track which runs just below their base. The Organ Pipes Track is one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks”. We will then continue to the top of Mount Wellington and the lookout over Hobart. We return to the ship and enjoy free time to wander Salamanca Place and Hobart.

DAY 4 Wednesday 17 February, 2021 At sea
A day at sea to enjoy the fabulous facilities of the ship. Perhaps enjoy a walk around the outdoors walking track or in the fitness centre.

DAY 6 Friday 19 February, 2021 Fiordland National Park, New Zealand
Today we cruise through some of the most spectacular scenery in New Zealand as we visit Milford Sound followed by Doubtful and Dusky Sounds. The fiords will be a highlight of the cruise, with spectacular scenery and fascinating wildlife. Nothing can prepare you for the majesty of Milford Sound, star of Fiordlands National Park. New vistas mesmerise at each turn – towering Mitre Peak, rising 1692 metres above the Sound, plunging waterfalls, bottlenose and dusky dolphins, fur seals and Fiordland crested penguins are amongst this wonderland of outstanding natural beauty.

DAY 7 Saturday 20 February, 2021 Dunedin
Today we arrive in Dunedin. Originally founded by Scottish settlers and known as the Edinburgh of the South. We are transferred to the beautiful Otago Peninsula just outside of Dunedin. We begin with a walk along Victory Beach, named after the SS Victory ship that sank off its shores in 1861. It is home to sea lions, fur seals, blue and yellow-eyed penguins. We will also see the rock formation known as the Pyramids before visiting the Royal Albatross Centre, the only mainland breeding colony of the Royal Albatross in the world.

DAY 8 Sunday 21 February, 2021 Akaroa
This morning we arrive in Akaroa on the spectacular Banks Peninsula. Enjoy a walk from Akaroa to the Akaroa Heritage Park and return with wonderful views of Akaroa Harbour and the surrounding hills followed by two short coastal walks including Ngaio point, one of the best coastal walks in the region. Both have excellent views of the Harbour. There will be free time to explore Akaroa before boarding the Regal Princess.

DAY 9 Monday 22 February, 2021 Picton

There will be plenty of opportunities to take scenic photos along the way on this challenging but varied walk.

DAY 10 Tuesday 23 February, 2021 Wellington
Today we call into Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. We will enjoy a coastal walk along the Makara track, a short distance outside of Wellington. Starting at Pukeroa Hill we pass the Rotorua Lakefront, Motutara (Sulphur Bay), Te Arikiroa and Puarenga Stream. We finish back in the centre of Rotorua. There will be time in Rotorua for lunch before we visit one of the geothermal pools that Rotorua is famed for. We return to the ship late afternoon.

DAY 13 Friday 26 February, 2021 Auckland
This morning we arrive in Auckland, the largest city and commercial centre of New Zealand. After breakfast we disembark the ship and travel west to the Te Henga Walkway (10.3 km). At the edge of the Waitakere Ranges, this coastal cliff walkway between Te Henga (Bethells Beach) and Muriwai Beach offers stunning views of Auckland’s rugged west coast. Now part of the Hillary Trail, it is regarded as one of the best tramping tracks in Auckland. This afternoon we return to Auckland to check into our hotel. For those interested enjoy the first section of the urban Coast to Coast Walk through the centre of the city of Auckland and the surrounding suburbs. It is a walk literally from one side of New Zealand to the other. We walk through landscapes shaped by 600 years of Māori occupation, and through some of Auckland’s finest natural and built heritage areas offering panoramic views along the way.

DAY 14 Saturday 27 February, 2021 Taupo
We depart Auckland for Taupo in the Central North Island. Along the way we stop at Karangahake Gorge. This historic region combines gold mining history and natural beauty. We will explore the area with the Windows Walk and the Rail Tunnel Loop. We see beautiful scenery, mining remnants, and walk through a kilometre long rail tunnel. We continue onto Lake Taupo, arriving late afternoon.

DAY 15 Sunday 28 February, 2021 Tongariro Alpine Crossing
Today we tackle the highlight of the tour, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We trek across volcanic alpine landscape of dramatic contrasts – steaming vents, glacial valleys, ancient lava flows, alpine vegetation and vivid crater lakes, all with stunning views. This challenging trip begins at 1120m, climbs the Mangatepopo Valley to the saddle between Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe, through South Crater before climbing again to Red Crater, the highest point on the crossing at 1886m. We will then descend on a volcanic rock scree track to the vivid Emerald Lakes, known as Nga Rotopounamu. After passing Blue Lake, also known as Te Wai-whakaatao- te-Rangihiroa (Rangihiroa’s mirror), the track sidles around the northern slope of Tongariro, then descends in a zigzag track down to the road end. We return to Taupo for our farewell dinner.
