We will visit Sakkara, the large necropolis of Memphis to admire the step pyramid of Zoser, the first pyramid ever built. In the afternoon, we visit Giza and see one of the wonders of the ancient world: The Pyramids, built by the Pharaohs over 4,500 years ago. We also see the mysterious great Sphinx, usually dated to 2,500 BC. This evening we enjoy an included Welcome Dinner to meet other tour members.
DAY 4 Thursday 17 February, 2022 Cairo
This morning we visit the Cairo Museum and see the most magnificent treasures of the tomb of Tutankhamen, including the amazing gold mask. We continue with a visit to the Mohamed Ali alabaster mosque within the walls of the citadel of Saladin. After lunch, we enjoy a tour of Old Cairo including the hanging church, Beni Ezra synagogue and the famous Kham El Khalili baazars, which sell a vast array of spices, water pipes, handicrafts and silks. The maze of narrow, congested streets teem with life and there are many mosques, most of which are open to non-Muslims.
DAY 5 Friday 18 February, 2022 Cairo
Today we travel to Alexandria, Egypt’s second largest city. Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 BC and it grew to rival Rome before falling into decline in the fourth century AD. We will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city including the Alexandria Library, the Citadel and the Ancient Roman Amphitheatre. We return to Cairo early evening.
DAY 6 Saturdday 19 February, 2022 Luxor
Today we are transferred to the airport for our flight to Luxor, known as the world’s largest outdoor museum. Luxor grew out of the ruins of Thebes, once the capital of Ancient Egypt’s New Kingdom. On arrival we are met by our private coach and transferred to the hotel for check in.
DAY 7 Sunday 20 February, 2022 Luxor
This morning you have the option of doing a hot air balloon ride over the famous Valley of the Kings and West Bank of Luxor. In the afternoon we enjoy a tour of the Luxor Temple, a large Ancient Egyptian temple complex on the Eastern Bank of the Nile River. Constructed around 1300BC, the temple was built by Amenhotep III, completed by Tutankhamun and added to by Rameses II and has been continuously used as a place of worship right up to the present day.
(Sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings is $270pp.)
DAY 8 Monday 21 February, 2022 Luxor/Embark Nile Cruise
This morning we visit the final resting place of Hatshepsut, Egypt’s first woman pharaoh, and stroll the shady arcades of her stunning temple, which is set at the base of soaring cliffs. We continue to the famed Valley of the Kings, resting place of the pharaohs. The tombs of the pharaohs were placed deep in the Theban Hills from 1,500 BC to stop robbers stealing priceless treasures. In the early afternoon we are transferred to our Nile Cruise. After enjoying lunch onboard, we visit Karnak Temple, a place that is still capable of overshadowing many of the wonders of the modern world. It covers about 81
hectares 1.5km by 0.8km. The area of the sacred enclosure of Amon alone is
61 acres and would hold ten average European cathedrals. The great temple
at the heart of Karnak is so big, St Peter’s, Milan and Notre Dame Cathedrals
could be lost within its walls. The Hypostyle hall at 5,000 square metre with
its 134 columns is still the largest room of any religious building in the world.
Follow dramatic stories of ancient life on intricate friezes, visit a sacred,
ceremonial lake and walk between aisles of fierce sphinxes that guard the
temple entrance.
DAY 9 Tuesday 22 February, 2022 Cruising/Edfu
Today is a free day onboard our Nile cruise as we sail to Edfu, passing through
the Esna locks. This afternoon, join us on the top deck for a fun game of The
Senior bingo. There will be prizes for the winners!
DAY 10 Wednesday 23 February, 2022 Edfu/Kom Ombo/Aswan
This morning we visit the Temple of Horus. Built between 237 and 57 BC,
the temple is one of the best preserved Ancient monuments in Egypt and is
dedicated to Horus, the son of Isis and Osiris. We travel back to the ship and
sail to Kom Ombo to visit the temple. Rising dramatically above the Nile River,
the Temple of Kom Ombo is one of Egypt’s most beautiful sights. Dedicated to
the local crocodile god Sobek, and Horus, the god of protection, Kom Ombo
is unique because it has a mirror-image design, divided down the middle,
with either side dedicated to each god. We will also visit the onsite Crocodile
Museum to view its collection of mummified crocodiles and ancient carvings.
We return to the cruise and sail to Aswan.
DAY 11 Thursday 24 February, 2022 Aswan
This morning we visit the Temple of Philae, the last temple built in the classical
Egyptian style. Built to honour the goddess Isis, it was nearly lost underwater
in the 1960s but was taken down and reassembled on the higher ground of
Agika Island over a 10 year period. We also visit the Aswan High Dam and the
unfinished obelisk. We return to the ship for lunch and the remainder of the
day is free.
DAY 12 Friday 25 February, 2022 Aswan

Kham Mausoleum. We then disembark our cruise and transfer to the hotel
for check in.
DAY 13 Saturday 26 February, 2022 Aswan

west bank of the Nile between 1274 and 1244BC, the Great Temple of Ramses
II and the Temple of Hathor were built as royal tombs and are some of Egypt’s
best known archaeological sites. Both temples were relocated in the 1960s to
avoid being submerged by the Aswan High Dam and now sit near the banks
of Lake Nasser. This evening we enjoy a Farewell Dinner to celebrate the end
of our wonderful tour.
