Day 1 Adelaide/Mannum
Today group members arrive in Adelaide (own arrangements – please
arrive by midday) and we transfer to Mannum. We will have time for a
stop in the quaint town of Hahndorf - “Australia’s Oldest German Town”,
settled in 1839 by Lutherans fleeing religious persecution in Prussia.
Hahndorf was named after the ship’s captain Hahn, whilst dorf is
German for village. We continue onto Mannum arriving late afternoon.
This evening we enjoy an included Welcome Dinner. Please ask about
airfares for flights to join the tour.
Day 2 Embarkation
This morning there will be free time to explore historic Mannum,
birthplace of Murray River trade. Mid-afternoon we board the PS Murray
Princess and head upriver while we enjoy a Welcome aboard dinner. As
we cruise under floodlight to our overnight mooring at Caurnamont,
you may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos,
hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species. Our onboard
entertainer provides music for the night owls.
Day 3 Walker Flat, Sugar Shack Conservation Park
Daybreak and it’s time for the keen photographers to be out to capture
the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife
includes pelicans, wrens and swans. This morning, your discovery vessel
awaits for a wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, we
explore the maze of the river and the birdlife is amazing. For those who
choose to stay on-board, you may wish to partake in a game of bocce or
compete in the fishing challenge before we cruise upriver past Walker
Flat to Sugar Shack Conservation Park. In the afternoon, join us in the
Sturt Dining Room for a special presentation on the bounty of food and
wine produced in the Riverland. After dinner, enjoy being entertained
by our on-board entertainer.
Day 4 Morgan
Continue cruising upriver this morning as we enjoy breakfast and pass

fun games of bingo. Late afternoon we will secure the vessel at Morgan
and after dinner, enjoy being entertained by our talented crew.

cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers. The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach
Hotel where you can enjoy an ale or cappuccino overlooking the Murray
River. Join a walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (gold
coin donation at entry). Cruise downriver after lunch and take in the
tranquillity as the landscape slides by. When we arrive at Sunnydale,
it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as we recreate typical Australian
woolshed history. Later we visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some
of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And
then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served
in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. After dinner,
there are two optional onshore tours to choose from (additional cost).
A Nocturnal Tour in a comfortable purpose-built cart where you may
see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats and owls and the Dark Sky Night

the way we will stop in Murray Bridge. We will visit the Roundhouse

the construction of the first bridge to span the Murray River,
the Round House has also served as the town’s first school, post office,
church and council chambers. We continue onto Victor Harbor.
Day 10 Victor Harbor
This morning join the Cockle Train as it travels along the oldest steel
railed railway in Australia dating back to 1887 when it was constructed to
provide a link between the River Murray and the ocean wharfs at Pt Elliot
and later at Victor Harbor. In early days of settlement the local residents
would take a horse drawn train to Goolwa to collect cockles from the
sandy beaches near the Murray mouth. It was a great day’s outing and
thus gained its name. Between Port Elliott and Victor Harbor the train
climbs to the top of the coastal cliffs and passengers then experience
some of the most picturesque coastal scenery on the Fleurieu Peninsula,
with nothing separating you from the beach below and a perfect view
of the Southern Ocean – in winter the home of Southern Right Whales.
