Travelling Onboard

On our overnight journeys we will be in Superliner and Viewliner bedroom cabins. Each room has a large sofa with two individually reclining sections, and an easy chair. At night, the sofa converts to a comfortable bed, and an upper berth folds down from above. All bedrooms feature private, self-enclosed rooms with toilet, sink and shower. All Superliner bedrooms are located on the upper level of the doubledecker Superliner train cars. Viewliner trains are single level.

Today we depart Australia on our flight to San Francisco, we cross the International Date Line and arrive on the day we depart. On arrival we will be transferred to our hotel.

Coast Starlight

Today we are transferred to the San Francisco train station and board the Coast Starlight train to Seattle. Passing through Santa Barbara, the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Portland, the Coast Starlight is regarded as one of the most spectacular of all train routes linking the greatest cities on the West Coast. We pass through the spectacular scenery of the Cascade Mountains on our way through Washington State and the city of Seattle.

Seattle

We arrive in Seattle in the late evening, where we will be met by our private coach and transferred to our hotel.

Thursday October 12, 2017

Seattle

This morning we enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city with a local guide. We will see the Space Needle and visit Seattle Centre, a 30-hectare urban park. We will see Waterfall Garden dominated by a thundering seven-metre waterfall dropping from a massive wall of rubble. We will also visit nearby Pioneer Square. We will be transferred to the Boeing Factory just outside of Seattle. We will have a tour of the facilities and see how these amazing state-of-the-art aircraft are manufactured.

Empire Builder

Today we board the Empire Builder for a two-day journey to Chicago. The mighty Empire Builder takes us on an exciting adventure through majestic wilderness, following the footsteps of early pioneers.

Empire Builder

We cross the North Dakota plains and travel over the spectacular Gassman Coulee Trestle. Skirting the Missouri River, we will cross into the Big Sky country in Montana and enjoy magnificent views of the Mississippi as we enter Chicago.

Sunday October 15, 2017

Chicago

We arrive in Chicago in the late afternoon. Upon arrival we will be met by our private coach and transferred to our hotel. This evening will be at your own leisure.

Monday October 16, 2017

Lake Shore Limited

This morning we enjoy a tour of Chicago, the third largest city in the USA, with a local guide. During the tour we will see the Magnificent Mile, a part of Michigan Avenue, where exclusive shops line the wide boulevard. We also see the Fourth Presbyterian Church, built in the Gothic Revival style, and the 100 storeys-high John Hancock Centre. In the late afternoon we are transferred to Chicago train station, where we will board our overnight train to New York.

New York

We arrive in New York this evening and will be transferred by coach to our hotel. New York is situated on one of the world’s largest natural harbours and consists of the five boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island.

Wednesday October 18, 2017

New York

Today we have a sightseeing tour of New York City. We will see the major sights of the city, including the Empire State Building, Wall Street, the Rockefeller Centre, Fifth Avenue, Times Square and much more. We will also visit Ground Zero, once the site of the World Trade Centre buildings. The afternoon is free for sightseeing and shopping. A walk up 5th Avenue is recommended, an unforgettable experience!

Thursday October 19, 2017

Crescent

This morning we travel by boat to the famous Statue of Liberty. Engineered by Gustave Eiffel, it was a gift from France to the American people in 1886. We will have a chance to climb the statue that has been the symbol of freedom the USA has offered to immigrants for over 100 years. We then travel to historic Ellis Island, where half the population of the US entered the country for the first time. We will see the route that new immigrants took through the processing room, medical appraisal room and entry room. In the afternoon we are transferred to New York train station and board the Crescent, for our overnight train journey to New Orleans.

New Orleans

French-settled and influenced, New Orleans is one of the USA’s most exciting and interesting cities, famous for its jazz, creativity, romance and drama. We arrive in the evening and are transferred to our hotel.

Saturday October 21, 2017

New Orleans

This morning we will enjoy a morning tour of the city with a local guide, including the key sights of the French Quarter: Jackson Square, Royal Street, the French Market and Bourbon Street, as well the nearby Garden District, Audubon Park, the Mississippi River and commercial Downtown. The afternoon will be free for independent exploration – perhaps a jazz concert.

New Orleans

This morning will be free for individual activity. In the afternoon we are transferred to New Orleans train station for our overnight train trip to Chicago

Chicago

This morning we arrive in Chicago and visit the Illinois Railway Museum, the largest railroad museum in the States. There are over 450 pieces of prototype equipment in its collection, as well as numerous displays. We are then transferred to our hotel for the night.

California Zephyr

Today we will be transferred to Chicago train station for the twoday journey back to San Francisco on the California Zephyr, which is considered one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America, travelling through the heart of the Rocky Mountains.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

International touring can involve a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing in the places visited and it is important that all tour participants have a level of physical fitness that allows them to take part in this activity without the need of assistance from others.

Travelrite International Pty Ltd (ABN 64 005 817 078) is the tour operator.

Deposit and Payment

A deposit of $900 per passenger for is required at the time of booking. A second payment of $1000 per person will be required four weeks after confirmation of your booking. Full payment will be required 90 days before departure for the tour. A 1.5% administration fee will be charged on payment by Visa or Mastercard and 3% on payment by AMEX or Diners Club cards.

Air Taxes

From Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane as listed in the itinerary. Please contact us for air taxes from different cities. Air taxes are as at 1/12/16. If they change due to government and airline charges and currency variations, Travelrite International reserves the right to charge additional amounts.

Refunds

The tour is based on arrangements that do not allow for any refunds in respect to sightseeing, accommodation, meals, airfare or other services not utilized after the tour has commenced.

Travel Documents

All passengers will require a valid passport. An ESTA is required for your visit to the USA for Australian passport holders. It can be obtained on-line for a small fee. If you hold another passport please check with Travelrite.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is recommended to cover the costs of cancellation fees due to illness, death in family, etc.

Baggage

All passengers qualify for the 30kg baggage allowance on Singapore Airlines. One suitcase allowed per person on the tour for train transfers. Additional suitcases will be an additional charge.

Minimum Tour Numbers

The tour has been priced on the basis of a minimum number of passengers having booked 60 days prior to departure. Travelrite reserves the right to cancel the tour, giving a full refund of all monies paid or offer arrangements to proceed with the tour at a modified cost. Travelrite reserves the right to change advertised entrances if necessary for the smooth operation of the tour.

Luggage:

Despite having luggage racks in our cabins, space constraints require that luggage is limited, per passenger, to: one suitable piece of hand luggage, one suit carrier or overnight bag (to be placed in your cabin), and one suitcase to be stored in the baggage car, where it will not be accessible until you reach your destination.

Tour Costs

The tour costs are based on airfare, general transport, accommodation costs and foreign exchange rate at 1/12/16. Travelrite reserves the right to alter the costs if any of these factors change, giving any passenger that has booked the right to withdraw with full refund of monies paid or modify arrangements. No alterations to price will be made within 90 days of departure from Australia.

Neither Nationwide News Pty Limited nor any of its subsidiaries, nor any of its newspapers have any involvement in the tour, and have no liability of any kind to any person in relation to the tour. Travelrite acts only as an agent in the making of arrangements for hotels, transportation, restaurants or any other service and do not assume any liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, death, loss, accident or delay to person or property due to an act of negligence or a default of any hotel, carrier restaurant company or person rendering any services included in the tour, or by act of God. Further no responsibilities are accepted for any damage or delay due to sickness, pilferage, labour disputes, machinery break-down, quarantine, government restraints, weather, terrorism or other causes beyond their control. No responsibility is accepted for any additional expense, omission, delays, rerouting or acts of any government authority. The passage contract between the carriers concerned, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the carriers and the purchasers of this tour and/or the passengers. The right is reserved to withdraw any tour and/or make such changes in the tour as may be found desirable or necessary for the convenience of the parties and the proper carrying out of the tour. This contract shall be construed in accordance of the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia and any action must be taken in the State of Victoria.
