Day 1 Monday 14 January, 2019 Auckland
Today we board flights to Auckland. Upon arrival we are transferred to our city hotel.
Day 2 Tuesday 15 January, 2019 Auckland
Auckland is the largest city and commercial centre of New Zealand. This morning we will enjoy a sightseeing tour which takes in the main sights of Auckland, including the harbour bridge, which spans the beautiful Waitemata Harbour, and the quaint and stylish shopping area of Parnell.
Day 3 Wednesday 16 January, 2019 Auckland
This morning we will travel by ferry to Waiheke Island and visit three vineyards and enjoy a lunch at one of the vineyards. We will meet the owner and/or winemaker and enjoy jaw-dropping scenery and stunning vistas as we travel between vineyards.
Day 4 Thursday 17 January, 2019 Embarkation
Late in the morning we are transferred to the port to board Celebrity Solstice. Make sure you are up on deck as Celebrity Solstice slips her moorings and makes her way into the Hauraki Gulf to start our Gourmet Tour of New Zealand cruise.
Day 5 Friday 18 January, 2019 Bay of Islands
This morning we arrive in the spectacular Bay of Islands, one of the most historic areas in New Zealand, comprising of 150 scenic islands. We will have a gourmet tour of the region visiting a number of food producers before enjoying an included lunch at a local restaurant.
Day 6 Saturday 19 January, 2019 Tauranga
We arrive in Tauranga this morning and visit the local Farmers Market, showcasing food produce from the local area. The Bay of Plenty is famous for its kiwi fruit and Hass avocados and the landscape is dotted with both types of orchards, creating a scenic patchwork landscape. We will visit some local food producers and see some of the natural volcanic wonders of Rotorua.
Day 7 Sunday 20 January, 2019 At sea
A day at sea is the perfect opportunity to explore the fabulous facilities of this magnificent ship. Relax by the pool or day spa, take a class or listen to an informative talk. This afternoon Lyndey will make a presentation on food.
Day 8 Monday 21 January, 2019 Wellington
With more cafés and restaurants per capita than New York, Wellington’s known as the culinary, café and coffee capital for a good reason. Here’s a chance to sample it all with a half-day walking tour around Wellington’s downtown area. You’ll be joined by a knowledgeable foodie who knows some of the capital’s best food places and galleries. During the tour you will visit a boutique coffee roaster and stylish cafe, a renowned specialist in fresh produce, gourmet food stores, and a unique contemporary chocolatier. At the end of your tasting tour, you’ll walk on to one of Wellington’s top restaurants for a delicious and light tasting lunch with matched New Zealand wines. In the afternoon you may like to visit the excellent Te Papa museum.
Day 9 Tuesday 22 January 2019 Picton
Today we arrive in Picton in New Zealand’s celebrated Marlborough wine region, where phenomenal wines, stunning landscapes and mouth-watering gourmet treats await us. We will enjoy marvellous views of the rolling hill ranges and contrasting market gardens, vineyards and farms from high vantage points. As New Zealand’s largest wine producer renowned for its Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the Marlborough region takes pride in its highly acclaimed wines. Sample some of the distinctive wines that a few local wineries have specialised in such as Viognier, Gewurztraminer, Gruener Veltliner, Arneis, Riesling and Merlot, along with a variety of wines that grow well in the region. We will have a gourmet tour of the region and an included lunch.
Day 10 Wednesday 23 January 2019 Akaroa
Today we call in to the village of Akaroa. Originally founded by the French, it is now a delightful town, still retaining the ambience of France. We visit some local producers on the Banks Peninsula and the iconic Giants House gardens before we enjoy a fantastic meal.
Day 11 Thursday 24 January, 2019 Dunedin
We arrive in Dunedin this morning. Originally founded by Scottish settlers and known as the ‘Edinburgh of the South’, it consists of beautifully preserved buildings overlooking parklands. On our tour today we will travel north to Oamaru, with a spectacular collection of Victorian buildings, which have been restored to their original glory. We will visit a German bakery selling organic breads and traditional biscuits in this heritage area. For cheese connoisseurs, we will enjoy a tasting session at the Whitestone cheese factory – be sure to try the award-winning Windsor Blue. South of Oamaru is Moeraki, where the main attraction is a beach strewn with giant spherical boulders. We will enjoy a seafood lunch that’s fresh off the fishing boats.
Day 12 Friday 25 January, 2019 Fiordland National Park
Today we cruise through some of the most spectacular scenery in New Zealand as we visit Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound. Fiordland National Park will be a highlight of the cruise, with spectacular scenery and fascinating wildlife. We will have another class available this afternoon.
Day 13 Saturday 26 January, 2019 At sea
Today Lyndey will run a cooking demonstration for the group on our day at sea.
Day 14 Sunday 27 January, 2019 At sea
A day at sea to enjouy the facilities of the ship.
Day 15 Monday 28 January, 2019 Hobart
This morning we will take a city tour focusing on Tasmanian produce: stunning cheeses, sensational cool-climate wines, charcuterie, pastries and more. Soak in the city’s history as we stroll between outstanding local businesses meeting local industry professionals and finding out Hobart’s secret ingredients – the produce, the culture, and the people. In the afternoon we visit the now famous MONA on the shores of the Derwent River.
Day 16 Tuesday 29 January, 2019 Hobart
Today we will explore Bruny Island, from a gourmet perspective, on this day trip from Hobart. After the ferry ride to the island, we admire natural sights like the Mount Mangana rainforest and Adventure Bay view points, and take leisurely walks to look for wallabies and other island animals. On the culinary side, we get to know the island’s food scene with tastings of cheese, chocolate, cider and berries, plus a lunch of local produce.
Day 17 Wednesday 30 January, 2019 At sea
Today Lyndey will give a presentation on food. You might like to enjoy some of the many activities available aboard Celebrity Solstice.
Day 18 Thursday 31 January, 2019 Sydney
This morning we cruise into Sydney Harbour and after breakfast we disembark and tour activities conclude.
