DAY 1 Saturday August 21, 2010 Departure
Our holiday begins with our flight to Venice.
DAY 2 Sunday August 22, 2010 Venice
This morning we arrive at Venice airport. After clearing customs, we will be met by our private motor launch and transferred to our hotel. Unique in the world, this is one of the most spectacular and romantic cities of the world. This afternoon we have an excursion to the island of Murano, known as the glass-making island. There will be an opportunity to enjoy some excellent shopping. This evening we will have a welcome cocktail party to meet other members of our group.
DAY 3 Monday August 23, 2010 Venice
The morning will be free for individual exploration. In the afternoon we will have a practical course in mask making. Group members will learn the meaning of different decorations on masks from the Carnival of Venice, Venetian daily life and the theatre. Each person chooses a mask they would like to decorate and take home. There will be a wonderful opportunity to explore the city by night. Perhaps stroll down to the famous St Marks Square and past the Doges Palace and “Bridge of Sighs”.
DAY 4 Tuesday August 24, 2010 Embarkation/Venice
We board the Aegean Odyssey today. The rest of the day is free to explore Venice.
DAY 5 Wednesday August 25, 2010 Venice
We will have a sightseeing tour this morning. We visit St Marks Square, see the Grand Canal, St Marks Cathedral and the Doges Palace.
DAY 6 Thursday August 26, 2010 Zadar
This morning we will have a sightseeing tour of Pula including the 23,000 seat amphitheatre built by Vespasian in 79 AD. In the afternoon we sail for Zadar. While we sail you will have the perfect opportunity to explore the fabulous facilities of the ship.
DAY 7 Friday August 27, 2010 Split
This morning we have a walking tour of Zadar, which will include the Roman Forum, the Romanesque jewel, the Cathedral of St Anastasia and the Byzantine Church of St.Donat. The ship departs late morning for Split. We will sail through the beautiful Kornati Islands this afternoon. In the evening you will have time to explore cafes in the old town of Split.
DAY 8 Saturday August 28, 2010 Trogir
We have a sightseeing tour of historic Split this morning. We visit the Palace of Diocletian including the Temple of Jupiter and Diocletian’s mausoleum. In the afternoon there is an optional tour of the delightful island of Trogir. We return to the ship for a relaxing evening.
DAY 9 Sunday August 29, 2010 Hvar
The pine-forested island of Korcula is said to be the birth place of one of the world’s most famous adventurers and great seaman, Marco Polo. The morning will be spent walking in the picturesque fortified town of Korcula visiting the 15th century Cathedral of St Mark. We also see Marco Polo’s reputed birthplace. At lunchtime the ship departs for the gorgeous island of Hvar. The afternoon is free to explore this attractive island.
DAY 10 Monday August 30, 2010 Dubrovnik
We call into the jewel of the Adriatic, the historic city of Dubrovnik today. The city is situated on a promontory surrounded by the beautiful waters of the Adriatic. It is renowned for the beauty of its monuments, its magnificent walls and welcoming atmosphere. It was founded by fugitives from the Roman city of Epidaurum in the 7th century. Today, we have a comprehensive full day tour of the beautiful city of Dubrovnik. We see the impressive Fort of St John and the Sponza Palace, which was built in the 14th century as the mint for the city.
DAY 11 Tuesday August 31, 2010 Kotor Bay
This morning is free for further exploration of Dubrovnik. The ship departs at noon and spends the afternoon cruising the stunning fjord of the Bay of Kotor before sailing for Corfu.
DAY 12 Wednesday September 1, 2010 Corfu
The Venetian heritage is still visible in the town of Corfu as you will discover on our morning tour. The tour takes in the Old Fortress built by the Venetians in the 16th century and the red-domed Agios Spyridon church and the famous Esplanade dating from the same period. The afternoon is free for individual exploration of Corfu.
DAY 13 Thursday September 2, 2010 Itea
Vathy, the capital of Ithaca is an attractive port to spend a free morning exploring. We sail past the great navel battle of Lepanto and the Rio-Antirio suspension bridge on our journey to Itea this afternoon.
DAY 14 Friday September 3, 2010 Corinth
We have a guided tour of the fabulous ruins of Delphi in the morning. The tour includes the huge theatre, the Temple of Apollo and the Sacred Way. In the afternoon there is an optional visit to the medieval Monastry of Osios Loukas. In the evening we sail to Corinth.
DAY 15 Saturday September 4, 2010 Mycenae
This morning we have a tour of the great Mycenaean culture that flourished between 1600-1300 BC. At the centre is the ancient city of Mycenae, reputedly the city mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. We travel to the elegant town of Nauplia, where there is free time for lunch. The group continues to Epidaurus, the site of the best preserved of all ancient Greek theatres.
DAY 16 Sunday September 5, 2010 Athens
There is free time to visit Corinth this morning. In the afternoon we sail through the Corinth Canal planned by Nero and eventually built in 1893. We arrive in Piraeus the port for Athens this evening.
DAY 17 Monday September 6, 2010 Athens
This morning we have a sightseeing tour of the ancient city of Athens, capital of Greece. Athens is home of the Acropolis and the ultimate ancient Greek architectural perfection, the Parthenon. Our sightseeing tour today delves into the glorious history of Athens. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Acropolis, still dominating the frantic bustle of modern Athens. We admire the Parthenon, built to honour the goddess Athena, and one of the wonders of the world. There will be a farewell dinner to celebrate our cruise this evening.
DAY 18 Tuesday September 7 Athens
This morning we disembark the ship and travel to our hotel, where we stay overnight. The rest of the day will be free to explore Athens.
DAY 19 Wednesday September 8, 2010 Departure
Today we travel to Athens airport for our flight to Australia.
DAY 20 Thursday September 9, 2010 Australia
We arrive in Australia this evening and the tour concludes. |
