Medieval Cities of the Mediterranean onboard Celebrity Century with Peter Dick 4 - 20 September 2010

DAY 1 Saturday 4 September 2010 Departure
We depart Australia and travel with Singapore Airlines to Barcelona.

DAY 2 Sunday 5 September 2010 Barcelona
This morning we arrive at Barcelona airport. After clearing customs, we will be met by our private coach and transferred into the city. Barcelona, capital of Catalonia is the second largest city in Spain. We visit the medieval Gothic Quarter, where we will see the historic cathedral and the medieval streets. The modernist Eixample district is known for the architecture of Antonio Gaudi. We see examples of Gaudi’s architecture including the famous Sagrada Familia. We will have an overview sightseeing tour of the city before we transfer to our hotel.

DAY 3 Monday 6 September 2010 Barcelona
A free day to explore the city of Barcelona.

DAY 4 Tuesday 7 September 2010 Embarkation
This morning we will be transferred to the waterfront to board Celebrity Century. After settling into your cabin, come out on deck to watch as the ship slips her moorings and departs Barcelona.

DAY 5 Wednesday 8 September 2010 Nice, France
This morning we arrive in Nice. We visit the fairytale principality of Monaco. We see the Grand Prix circuit, the cathedral where Princess Grace is buried and the Royal Palace. We will travel along the Cornice road and see the spectacular French Riviera as we head back to Nice.

DAY 6 Thursday 9 September 2010 San Gimignano, Tuscany
Today we visit the port of Livorno, Tuscany. We travel into the beautiful Tuscan countryside to the wonderfully preserved medieval hill town of San Gimignano. Known for its 13 towers it was built in the 12th century by nobles to compete with each other. It is one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany. We return to the ship for a delicious dinner and wonderful show.

DAY 7 Friday 10 September 2010 Rome
This morning we arrive at the port of Civitavecchia and travel by coach to Rome. We enjoy a sightseeing tour of the “Eternal City”. We will see the Colosseum, the Pantheon, an ancient temple, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, where group members can throw a coin and make a wish to return to Rome one day.

DAY 8 Saturday 11 September 2010 Taomina, Sicily
Today we call in to the island of Sicily. We travel to the famous resort of Taormina, spectacularly located on a 200m rocky outcrop, surveying Mt Etna. The town, founded by the Greeks, has an ancient theatre that also overlooks the mountain. Since the eighteenth century, Taormina has been a popular travel destination. We will walk around the medieval centre and see the terrace Piazza IX April, with its views overlooking Mt Etna and the sea. We will visit Torre dell’Orologio, a restored twelfth century clock tower and the famous ancient Greek theatre, founded in the third century BC and rebuilt by the Romans at the end of the first century AD – it is spectacularly sited with views of Mt Etna in the distance.

DAY 9 Sunday 12 September 2010 At sea
A free day while the Celebrity Century cruises through the Ionian Sea. There will be time to enjoy the wonderful facilities of the ship, perhaps have a spa or beauty treatment, attend an informative lecture, or a dance class. This afternoon Peter Dick will entertain the group with a description of his life in the media.

DAY 10 Monday 13 September 2010 Mykonos, Greece
Today we call in to the idyllic Greek Island of Mykonos for a free day to explore the island or just to relax.

DAY 11 Tuesday 14 September 2010 Ephesus, Turkey
Today we arrive in to the port of Kusadasi, Turkey. We have a sightseeing tour to the ancient city of Ephesus, one of the best preserved ancient cities in the world. We see the Library and Amphitheater, all perfectly preserved and much more.

DAY 12 Wednesday 15 September 2010 Athens, Greece
Today we call in to the ancient city of Athens, capital of Greece. Home of the Acropolis and the ultimate of ancient Greek architectural perfection, the Parthenon. Our sightseeing tour today delves into the glorious history of Athens. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the Acropolis, still dominating the frantic bustle of the modern city. We admire the Parthenon, built to honour the goddess Athena, and one of the wonders of the world.

DAY 13 Thursday 16 September 2010 At sea
A day at sea. Tour members will be able to enjoy one of the many on-board activities or browse in the designer boutiques on the ship. This morning we will play bingo for the 4BC group with Peter Dick calling the numbers.

DAY 14 Friday 17 September 2010 Sorrento, Italy
This morning we arrive in Naples. In the morning we will travel to Sorrento for a guided walking tour. In the afternoon, we will travel to the ancient, perfectly preserved ruins of Pompeii. A wealthy settlement of the Roman Empire, it was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. We will have a tour of the ruins with a local guide to see the Forum, the House of the Vetti, a well preserved aristocratic villa and much more.

DAY 15 Saturday 18 September 2010 At sea
A day at sea. Tour members will be able to enjoy one of the many on-board activities or browse in the designer boutiques on the ship. This morning we will enjoy a game of Trivial Pursuit for the 4BC group with Peter Dick.

DAY 16 Sunday 19 September 2010 Barcelona
This morning we disembark the ship. We are transferred to the airport for the flight back to Australia.

DAY 17 Monday 20 September 2010 Australia
We arrive in Australia today and tour arrangements conclude.
