Jennifer Stackhouse
Jennifer Stackhouse is a horticulturist and garden writer who lives on a small property at Kurmond, NSW with her family, dogs, cats, chooks and the neighbour’s horses. Jennifer started her career with an honours BA (Bachelor of Arts) majoring in Fine Arts. Her early interest in social history, art and garden history led to further studies in horticulture and a change of direction towards plants, gardens and landscape design. Today she is editor of the ABC Gardening Australia magazine and also writes garden stories for newspapers and magazines around Australia. With her gardening mother, Shirley Stackhouse, she recently brought out My Gardening Year, a book that has a year’s worth of garden advice and observations. The book was first published in the 1980s as Shirley Stackhouse’s Gardening Year and was a much-loved garden companion. The new edition has been extensively updated and revised. Jennifer loves talking about gardens and plants, and regularly answers people’s garden queries on the air and at garden shows. And, when she’s not doing that, she’s outside in her own garden or feeding the chooks. Jennifer is looking forward to sharing her love of the gardens of England and Italy. She was the leader of successful garden tours to England in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
