Day 1 Wednesday June 23, 2010 Departure
Today we depart Australia on our Singapore Airlines flight to London Heathrow.
Day 2 Thursday June 24, 2010 London
This morning we arrive at Heathrow airport. After clearing Customs, we will be met by our private coach and transfer to London for our sightseeing tour. We will see Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Harrods and more. We will then transfer to our hotel.
Day 3 Friday June 25, 2010 London
A free day to explore exciting London. Perhaps travel on the London Eye where you get a magnificent view of the sights of London or attend a West End Show.
Day 4 Saturday June 26, 2010 Southampton
We depart late morning to Southampton where we board the Eclipse early afternoon. Be up on deck as the Eclipse slips her moorings at 5:00pm for the start of our fabulous fourteennight cruise. Dinner will be served from 6:30pm
Day 5 Sunday June 27, 2010 Bruges, Belgium
We travel to Bruges this morning. This town appears to come straight out of the Middle Ages. The houses of brick huddle close to the banks of the canals, where swans glide gracefully across the dark waters. We will see the Grand-Place, flanked by houses with crow-stepped gables, old Guild Halls and the covered market situated in the shadow of the magnificent town belfry. Also the Burg Square, which houses four of Brugge’s main buildings: the Basilica Church, dedicated to the Precious Blood, the Gothic Town Hall, the Renaissance Court Record Office and the old Law Courts.
Day 6 Monday June 28, 2010 North Sea
Our first day at sea. During the day, we will explore and enjoy the fantastic facilities and many activities available on the Eclipse. This evening we will welcome the group formally at a Welcome Cocktail Party. We will outline further our activities on the cruise and it will be an opportunity to meet other group members.
Day 7 Tuesday June 29, 2010 Warnemunde, Germany
This morning we arrive into Warnemunde, the port of Rostock and the closest port to Berlin. We travel to Berlin where we see the Brandenburg Gate, the emblem of Berlin and for three decades the symbol of the city’s division. We see the restored Reichstag, where the nation’s government sits. Then we travel along the Unter den Linden, which until the war, was the capital’s busiest, most lively avenue. We see the Gendarmenmarkt, the most beautiful square in Berlin and visit Nikolaiviertel, an area of narrow cobbled streets and old taverns that remind the visitor of a country town. We return to the ship in the evening after a long day.
Day 8 Wednesday 30 June 2010 At sea
A day at sea to enjoy the facilities of the ship. Today we will have a session of Travelrite International Bingo. We divide group members into teams and we have prizes for the winning team.
Day 9 Thursday July 1, 2010 Stockholm, Sweden
This morning we call in to the very beautiful city of Stockholm, capital of Sweden. We have a morning sightseeing tour to explore the city with its rich cultural heritage. It is surrounded by clear water and unspoiled countryside, which stretches into the heart of the urban area. Stockholm’s seven hundred and fifty year history has produced many beautiful buildings and cultural treasures, which can be discovered in its fine museums. We visit the old centre of Stockhom, Gamla Stan with its Royal Palace and City Hall, the location of the Nobel Prize Award Dinner each year. Stockholm is often regarded as the “Venice of the North” with its many waterways and the archipelago to the east. The afternoon is available for individual exploration.
Day 10 Friday July 2, 2010 Helsinki, Finland
We have a sightseeing tour of Helsinki, the capital of Finland this morning. We see the modern architecture of the city, the Sibelius Monument and the modern underground Temppeliaukiojn Church, which has been carved straight out of the bedrock. This afternoon we will have free time to explore Helsinki or just relax.
Day 11 Saturday July 3, 2010 St Petersburg, Russia
We will be in for a special treat exploring beautiful St Petersburg. It was founded in 1703 by Peter the Great, who was determined to found a northern port with an unrestricted passage to the Baltic. Peter the Great was the first Tsar to travel to Europe. He returned with many ideas for reforms and different architectural styles. During our guided tour today, we will visit the oldest part of the city: SS Peter and Paul Cathedral and fortress, the world famous Hermitage Palace, with its wonderful art collection and the city’s most famous theatre, the Mariinsky.
Day 12 Sunday July 4, 2010 St Petersburg, Russia
Today we will be visiting the Imperial Palace at Tsarskoe Selo; the Catherine Palace. During our time at the Palace our local guide will show us many of the wonderful rooms including the Amber Room, the Green Dining Room and the Great Hall. There will also be time to see some of the formal gardens that are also a feature of this Palace. In the afternoon we will take an enjoyable boat ride on the canals of St Petersburg. We will see the beautiful city from the water. This will be a truly memorable day.
Day 13 Monday July 5, 2010 Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn, the capital of Estonia is known for its historic medieval city with its cobblestone streets and gingerbread style houses. We will have a guided visit to the historic centre where we learn about the history of this fascinating town, from the Middle Ages to its 1991 independence from the Soviet Union, and how the country is adapting to a western style economy. During our time exploring Tallinn we will see the Toompea, the old town, the Viru Gate and Raekoja Plats.
Day 14 Tuesday July 6, 2010 At sea
A day at sea to enjoy the facilities of the ship. This afternoon we will enjoy a game of Travelrite International Trivial Pursuit. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.
Day 15 Wednesday July 7, 2010 Copenhagen, Denmark
We arrive into the city of Copenhagen this morning. Our private coach will take us on a guided tour of this city, home of the world’s oldest monarchy, now with an Australian connection. We will see the Amalienborg Palace, home of the royal family since 1794, which is guarded by its own sentries, Rosenborg Castle, a seventeenth century castle that houses the crown jewels. We will also see the Radhus, (city hall), Kongens Nytorv, a square circled by gracious old buildings, including the Royal Theatre and Charlottenborg, a seventeenth century Dutch Baroque palace. Of course, a visit to this wonderful city would not be complete without a visit to the Little Mermaid and also to Nyhaven known for its old sailing ships.
Day 16 Thursday July 8, 2010 Copenhagen, Denmark
We stay overnight in Copenhagen and have time to explore Copenhagen at leisure.
Day 17 Friday July 9, 2010 At sea
Tour members will be able to enjoy one of the many on-board activities today. This afternoon we will play Travelrite International Bingo.
Day 18 Saturday July 10, 2010 London
This morning we arrive at Southampton. After breakfast we disembark the ship and are transferred to London. There will be free time before we are transferred to the airport for the flight back to Australia.
